Hello, I am Carlissa and I am a Design Engineer.
I am an Interdisciplinary Engineer and Exploration-based Designer. I work at the intersection of creativity, human-centered design, and technology in order to bring people's ideas to life. Through my practice, I seek to apply design strategy to drive innovation through physical and digital solutions. I have designed toys for animals for a local zoo, developed an "Internet of Things" hardware product to help people remember what matters most, and worked with the City of Boston to prototype a Kitchen Makerspace. In my spare time, I teach myself visual communication skills, such as digital illustration, animation, and creative programming languages. My goal is to create meaningful product experiences that empower people, foster nature-human relationships, and bring delight to everyday life. When I am not designing, I take boxing classes, roller skate in the park, and host Netflix parties for my long-distance friends. Feel free to check out my background and portfolio to learn more about my projects.
My Background
I studied Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University where I worked in makerspaces helping students build out their projects through digital fabrication and machining. Currently I am finishing my Master's in Design Engineering at Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design this May 2023. A research-driven, project-based program that emphasizes designing physical objects for social innovation. I am seeking Product Design roles after graduation.
